Prometheus Hyperscale Partners With Uinta County to Bring Data Center to Community

The teams at Prometheus Hyperscale and Build Wyoming are working with Uinta County and the City of Evanston to build a data center in the region. They are working alongside community leaders and residents to co-develop and enter into community benefit agreements that reflect local priorities and ensure the project delivers meaningful, lasting benefits for the local economy and community.

“A data center in Evanston could be a massive boom for Wyoming and the nation,” says Eric Schlidt, Director of Build Wyoming. “Communities across the country are in a race to generate more computing power in the United States. This project aligns with federal initiatives to help grow our AI infrastructure.”

Schlidt highlights President Donald Trump’s support of data centers and his drive to get them online as soon as possible. Prometheus Hyperscale is currently evaluating potential locations for its data center and working with community leaders to develop a plan to move forward.

Construction Includes a Data Center and Natural Gas Plant

Prometheus Hyperscale plans to build this as a natural gas-powered facility, which is common in the data center world. This increases the construction footprint and job demand in the region.

Wyoming is a natural fit for large facilities that require gas power. It produces 12 times more energy than it consumes and is in the top 10 states in “both total proved natural gas reserves and marketed natural gas production.” The U.S. Energy Information Administration specifically cites the ample natural gas reserves in the Southwest corner of the state, around Uinta County.

Schlidt also sees the benefits of working in Wyoming and taking on major construction projects.

“Wyoming is good at building things,” he says. “Evanston has been at the forefront of building infrastructure for decades. It will continue to be a leader in the state and nation.”

Prometheus Hyperscale is Proactively Addressing Water Needs

One of the biggest concerns citizens have about data centers in their communities is water use. Inefficient data centers can use up to 5 million gallons per day, enough to supply a community of up to 50,000 people. Prometheus Hyperscale will use closed-loop, high-efficiency cooling technologies, which are designed to be non-consumptive, dramatically reducing water usage by 50-70%, according to the World Economic Forum.

“The Prometheus Hyperscale data centers are designed around water-efficient technology from the ground up, with continuous investment in innovation to further reduce our environmental impact," says Schlidt.

The company is also investing in quiet systems to avoid disrupting surrounding towns and cities and to protect Wyoming’s dark skies by limiting light pollution.

“I live in Casper and would feel comfortable with this data center in my backyard,” says Schlidt. “We are not ruining the Wyoming that we all love.”

This Project Could Be a Major Job Creator for Evanston

The data center project will also have an immediate impact on Uinta County’s economy, creating an estimated 11,921 jobs by 2029. Nearly 8,000 of those jobs will be tied to the construction of the plant, but an estimated 1,552 jobs will be indirectly created because of the data center. This includes restaurant workers, store employees, and other roles to support the growing population.

Once construction is complete, Build Wyoming says the long-term impact could range from a few dozen jobs to hundreds of permanent jobs. It all depends on the size of the natural gas plant and data center.

“We are doing what we can to hire local talent and provide careers for residents, so they want to stay here,” says Schlidt.

The company is already working with Western Wyoming Community College to use their training curriculum and to develop new programs to support the upcoming workforce.

“We have enjoyed the conversations we have had with Prometheus Hyperscale and Build Wyoming about this project,” says Rocco O'Neill, Community Development Director for the City of Evanston. “We are confident this will have a positive impact on our economy, tax base, and residents now and for decades to come.”

Uinta County Residents Can Follow the Data Center Project

Evanston and Greater Uinta County residents who want to stay up to date on Prometheus Hyperscale and Build Wyoming can follow them online or stay engaged with BusinessWyoming.com for updates. Another way to stay connected is via prometheushyperscale.com. The City of Evanston will regularly update residents on the project and opportunities to ask questions and learn more.
